Charlie Adams

Ole Miss alum and Lafayette High grad Charlie Adams was a 12th grader when the Miracle on Ice happened in February of 1980. He saw first hand how Oxford, a town that knew little of hockey, was mesmerized by the David vs. Goliath 4-3 win Team USA had over the Soviets, later named America’s greatest sports moment. Today, Charlie delivers motivational programs built on the back story of mystical Lake Placid, NY (home of the 1932 and 1980 Games) and the Miracle on Ice. He can be reached at charlie@stokethefirewithin.com.

Adams: The Miracle Culminated on Feb. 24, 1980

“This impossible dream….comes true!!” It was 36 years ago this afternoon, February 24th, 1980, that Al Michaels yelled out those words, as over 33 Americans jumped up and down in front of their TV sets. A group of blue collared young men and their passionate coach had just won the gold medal, showing a hurting…

Adams: Where was the Fire Marshal!?

As Americans, we can get crafty when pressed against the wall. The Soviet hockey team was sent to Lake Placid to destroy the young U.S. team on U.S. soil, and to proclaim communism as superior to the American way of life, but they would find Americans can be a resilient and creative lot. The Soviet team […]…

Rocky  Balboa once said, “The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t […]…

Adams: The Ultimate Example of Team

Adams: The Ultimate Example of Team

One of the main requests I get from meeting players or organizational leaders is to speak with an emphasis on team. For various reasons in recent years building and keeping a team spirit within an organization has become challenging. I truly believe what happened between July of 1979 and the Miracle on Ice of 1980 […]…

Adams: Reflections after a Year of my Miracle on Ice Talk and the Power within THEIR Story

It has been a year since I developed and started delivering my Talk on the Miracle on Ice/Lake Placid and what we can learn from it. I have done it about 100 times with about 60% at corporate events and the rest split between college, high school and church events. It has been 35 years […]…

Adams: To Have a Great Beef Stew, It Takes Peas With a Good Attitude

Team building is an incredibly important topic. I hear from leaders all the time about how they want to make their company, their school, their church into a stronger team.
